Buzz of the Week : Watercolor Markers and Spritzing

Watercolor-spritzing-1-small

Spritzing has been on my mind for a while! And finally I tried it. The image above is one of my experiments. The technique sounds deceptively simple and it is, once you figure out how much water to spritz or how watery you like your images.

So here's the technique: Color a stamp with a watercolor marker, yes actually brush the marker directly on to the stamp. Spritz the stamp (don't hold the stamp too close to the spritzer) with a spritzer. Then stamp on paper. Like any technique, you can push it as far as you like. To see some fantastic art created this way go to Fred Mullett;  and yes, I have blogged about him before.

Some tips: I used the Marvy Le Plume Markers, watercolor paper and a spritzer that sprays a fine mist.

Outdoors ?

Tavern-on-the-green-1

Tavern-on-the-green-2

When we were wandering around Central Park we wandered into the the "Tavern on the Green" restaurant, which is in the park. I was tired and needed some nourishment and this place turned out to be perfect. I don't quite know whether to call this outdoors or indoors because this really is a gorgeous patio inside the restaurant. But look at all that green and those gorgeous lanterns! I couldn't stop taking pictures!! It was beautiful. The weather was perfect too. And they do have a Crystal room and more seating which is glittering with these gorgeous crystal chandeliers and surrounded by French glass windows that look on to this patio.

Anyways, you can decide whether to call this the indoors or outdoors. But go over to Susan's asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com to enjoy more of the outdoors!

Buzz of the Week: Flourishes and Theresa

Flourishes

Theresa-Momber-Peaceful-Wishes

Flourishes and swirls have been on my mind for a long time! And I had seen Flourishes, the stamp company, on Split Coast Stampers. I had bought a gorgeous set of garden party themed stamps from them. And then I looked at their blog recently. The beautiful card on the top is from their blog. Travel there to see more beautiful and inspiring cards.

The second card is by Theresa Momber (now also featured on the Flourishes blog). If you go to this particular link, she even shares the steps to creating this gorgeous piece of art!

Chocolate !

Chocolate-cookie

Max-Brenner-1

Chocolate and more chocolate!!! If you ever wished there was a real Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, then there is a place that might just be. We (hubby and self) were in New York City over the long weekend. It was fun, the sun actually shined! New England hasn't seen much sun this summer - just about seven days! But I digress.

We happened to chance upon a restaurant called "Max Brenner - chocolate by the bald man". The allure of chocolate and the name was intriguing enough but we were headed to dinner elswhere. We left room for dessert and found our way back there. It was fantastic (so good that I forgot to take pictures)! It was chocolate heaven. I have blogged about molten chocolate cake before but Brenner's does it in so many different ways. I had the "Ivory Heart" which was molten chocolate with raspberry sauce, vanilla ice cream and more. But molten chocolate is not their only chocolate concoction. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and, of course, dessert. There are chocolate treats available at every meal time and in between and that's not counting chocolate beverages. The pictures are from a second trip to another Brenner's location that we happened to find (that is the absolute truth) the next day. And then they sell chocolates to takeaway with you. What more could one ask for? I was lamenting the fact that they don't have any restaurants in New England but then it is probably a good thing for my waist line.

Remember the church from last week, the Old Baptist Church in Cambridge? Take a look at its beautiful stained glass window, shot at night. We captured these images while the window was illuminated with the light from inside.

Outdoors!

Winchester_Center

This is a small green in Winchester center. And right next to it is a train station! In fact, if you time it right, you can see the train flying through the sky from this point of view (it goes over an overpass). This is a picture to take part in the Outdoors party hosted by Susan, a southern daydreamer. Go on over to her blog to see more of the outdoors.
