Speaking of flower fairies, I had to post an illustration by Cicely Mary Barker. Cicely Barker has painted loads of lovely illustrations of flower fairies for all seasons and some more. Each flower fairy is accompanied by a poem. Since March is just around the corner, I thought it appropriate to post the Blackthorn Fairy. The cold days of March are also some times called "Blackthorn Winter". The image is from the book "The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies" published by the Penguin group, originally published by Frederick Warne. This book is a treasure trove of Cicely's enchanting pictures. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys illustrations.
aw, I used to looooove this book as a little girl!! her drawings were so magical to me. i still have one of my little "flower fairy" books and whenever i see little baby carnations or pinks i think of the little faerie (fairy?) who had pinking shears and snipped all the flowers!
