Papers and Colors

One of the things about being interested in collage or mixed media is that inspiration can come through pretty much anything. There is a serious risk of becoming a pack rat :-). But I am finding that I prefer minimalism. Less is more. More is overwhelming. I love and admire the work of artists who create many, many layers. But in my own work I like to keep it minimal. 

I don't collect a lot but I am still slowly weeding out stuff that I know I don't want to use. I give it to friends who I know will like it. This weekend I sifted through my stash and found tissue papers in different colors. They look so lovely. To keep or not to keep is the question.......

 

It's been long!

I know, I know I haven't been blogging much. But you will definitely find me on Instagram @gorgeousfun and if you aren't on Instagram you can see the pics at at Gorgeous and Fun tumblr blog.  I have been incredibly busy so blogging pics directly from my iPhone seems to happen much more easily than typing out words.

I will be back with a more regular posting schedule after I get a few things out of my way. One of them being getting my wisdom teeth extracted, something I have been avoiding for a year. I am absolutely terrified about it but now it must be done! But I am also working on some fun things and will reveal more in September.

I have been giving myself a holiday from creative activity, some times a girl needs to recharge her creative batteries, no? I am reading loads of books and ogling beautiful creative books as a part of the recharge process. So my creative kicks have been mainly coming from cooking. Yep, you read that right. Somewhere in India my best pal and my mom are pinching themselves when they read this. 10 years back you wouldn't have caught me saying that.

So I share with you the photo of an Indian dish called "Masoor Masala", absolutely delicious and healthy!

Holly Becker, Decorate and BYW friends

Hello, hello! Yesterday I got to meet up with Holly Becker of the Decor8 blog and the gorgeous, gorgeous Decorate book fame. The event was at Anthropologie in Boston downtown, a perfect location for to complement the Decorate book and the mood board presentation.

I have followed Holly's blog for a long time and I had taken her first ever "Blogging Your Way" class. Holly is super-talented, very creative and incredibly nice! Her blog is a huge inspiration for loads and loads of people. The "Decorate" book is beautiful, choc-full of ideas and absolutely inspiring. So a must-have for anyone interested in any kind of design, even though the book is about interiors, the color palettes and textures and photography can inspire anyone! 

 

Yesterday, Holly was in Boston for her book signing. She did a fab presentation on Mood Boards. And I think mood boards are inspiring to many kinds of creativity and not just interiors. Some pics of Holly.......

 

 

 

 

And then I got to hang out with some of my classmates from BYW and Holly and some of Holly's friends.

 

 

 

 

And I got to meet the lovely and talented artist Sarah Ahearn who has written the book Painted Pages. I had brought my copy along for her to sign my book! So I got two signings!! I had blogged about Sarah's book in this post earlier this year. Another gorgeous book that will inspire your creative juices.

A Blue Necklace

I know I have skipped out of here, some days it goes like that, just not enough time for all the things I would like to do. But I am back. I am blogging as I watch an episode of Supernatutal, scares the hell out of me but absolutely engaging. And Jensen Ackles looks so good.......

But about creativity and creative things. A few weeks I made this necklace with turquoise and shiny transparent beads and cool, cool links. My friend, L, loved it...... so I gave it to her.

 

More Silver Clay Pendants

I haven't made much this week, I haven't felt well all week - a bad cold kinda feeling without all the sneezing. And today my lungs feel all scratchy, I want to feel better already.

Silver Clay

Falling in love with Precious Metal Clay. I have known about silver clay for a couple of years but just didn't work with it until last month. And I fell in love. I took a class on it and now I don't think I can stay away from it. I made 4 pendant pieces in the class from 16g of clay.

And then last weekend I made more!

What does the clay feel like ? Like children's clay, like dough. So easy to work with and so much fun! And after the clay is fired you have a beautiful piece of silver that you moulded on your own! I find making jewelry so much fun because it is art that I can wear.

A Bird Again - Being Creative

Another bird picture from me today. This one has yellows and I like yellow. I think of yellow as a bright, cheerful color, a hint of summer.

Just a Bird

I found these little bird pictures from the 60s at some vintage stores. I wanted to use them in my collages but here I have used one with paints. I have made a few of these but I think I will be holding on to the rest of the pictures to use in collages.
