Pink Flowers and Spin a Tale

Happy Pink Saturday! (Make sure to go to Beverly's How sweet the sound blog to enjoy more pink)

Now did the title of this post whet your curiosity - the mention of something called "Spin a Tale"? Let me tell you a little bit more about it. This is going to be a blogging party with a twist. Each week, on Wednesdays, I'll post the beginning of a story. It maybe a sentence or a small paragraph. All you have to do to play along is continue the story by leaving a sentence or any number of words you wish (and, of course, your name and blog address, again only if you want to!). That's it!! I'll start this party this Wednesday, so mark your calendars and please come and play!

It will be fun to see where the story goes. I was thinking about how we all enjoy stories in some fashion - books, TV, Movies. So why not have a fun party spinning some tales! After all, this blog is about having fun.

About the flowers:

My hubby surprised me with these gorgeous flowers on Sunday. They are from Trader Joes, aren't they pretty? Trader Joe's has really lovely floral bunches at very normal prices. So this was my treat for this week.

Sunflower

 

Seriously, this sunflower is taller than me! This is a neighbor's sunflower. Sunflowers, grow towards the end of summer heralding the end of the season. For some reason I expected sunflowers to grow in the middle of summer, because of their names I guess. The first time I saw a sunflower plant, I was shocked - I had no idea they grew so tall!! Being a city kid I had only seen the cut sunflowers in vases at the florists.

I've had a rough week so I was late with this post.

When the rhododendron was in bloom.... Something pink to feast your eyes on. Go on over to Beverly's blog to enjoy more of the pink. I am not really a stitcher but fabric blogs can be so delicious. Fresh, vibrant flowers can be seen everywhere in windowboxes, pots and urns! New England has seen a lot of rain this summer so people are trying to make the most of the fresh flowers before the season ends. These were planted in a giant pot outside an office building. I found a closeup of these flowers, in case any one can identify them. They seem to have a bell shape. I had taken more pictures on the weekend but I've had a long day so I've run out of steam. The Rose Rambler

Wild Flowers

 

 

Wild flowers seen at the edge of a walking trail. I have no idea what these flowers are, but there they were nodding their pretty little heads in the breeze as I walked by. Go on over to a southern daydreamer to see more of the outdoors.

The Crimson Rambler

 

"The Crimson Rambler" is painted by Philip Leslie Hale. It is beautiful! It is from a book that cataloged an exhibition curated by the Peabody Essex Museum. The book "Painting Summer in New England", by Trevor Fairbrother, chronicles the beauty of New England by artists from different genres and spanning at least a couple of centuries. This picture is one of the beauties in there.

Buzz of the Week: Jane Davies

 

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take a class with the famous artist Jane Davies. I can describe the experience in one word as "fantastic". She taught us so many techniques, shared beautiful papers for collaging and had prepared loads of images (on trasnparent media) for us. If you ever get a chance to take a class with her, take it! She is a fun, engaging and helpful teacher. The images above are from Jane's book "Collage Journeys". I actually got to see the originals pieces featured above! Jane also designs beautiful products and to see more of her work head to Jane Davies Studios.
